Why We’re Excited about Captain America: Civil War

The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies have repeatedly impressed with their Avengers and individual hero movies, and the upcoming Captain America movie is looking to be one of the best.

In case you haven’t seen the new Captain America: Civil War trailer, or didn’t spot every hint of what’s to come, here are our top 5 reasons to get excited for Captain America: Civil War.

The Top 5 Reasons We’re Excited about the New Captain America

Captain America vs Iron Man

In the first Avengers, Captain America and Iron Man/Tony Stark were often at each other’s throats, but these were basically just petty play fights. You knew no one was going to really get hurt. In Civil War, however, the gloves come off. The trailer shows Cap and Bucky ganging up on Tony, with Bucky even grabbing Tony’s arc reactor like he’s going to rip it out.

Other heroes join both sides of the conflict, with Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Falcon backing up Cap and Bucky, and Black Widow, War Machine and Vision supporting Iron Man, and these are all potential casualties. War Machine in particular looks like he takes some serious damage, which could offer Tony a motivation for revenge.

Moral Grey Area

Up until now, the heroes have always known who the bad guys were. Now they’ve turned on each other, with neither side being completely right or wrong. This is what dark heroes are made from, where they have to give up doing what’s right, and start doing what’s necessary.

In addition to the righteous superhero Captain America getting his hands dirty, in the Civil War comics, Iron Man seriously compromises his noble side as well. We can’t wait to see how Robert Downey Jr. brings this to life on the big screen.

Black Panther

First hinted in Age of Ultron, Black Panther will make his debut in Civil War. We don’t know much about his motivations yet, except that he may be more of a third party with his own perspective and stake in events.

Spider-Man

It just wouldn’t be Marvel if they didn’t reboot Spider-Man AGAIN. Everyone’s favourite web-slinger is only expected to have a cameo in Captain America: Civil War, which is a little disappointing considering how important he is in the original Civil War storyline. Regardless, this should give us a glimpse of what Marvel has in store for their 2017 solo Spider-Man film.

The Russo Brothers

Joe and Anthony Russo proved their directing chops with The Winter Soldier, so we know that Civil War - with its heavy themes and serious conflict - is in good hands. They also directed both Arrested Development and Community, so we know they can handle the lighter stuff as well.
