Best Superhero TV Shows

Comic characters have seen a serious revival in the past few years, with numerous spin-offs being released at an extraordinary rate. There have been numerous series on the small screen, as well as a number of films released recently, that are based on the Marvel and DC worlds.

Do you love your superheroes but want more commitment and character development than movies offer?

Here’s our list of the best superhero TV shows. Be warned, though, both the classic and modern adaptations can be seriously addictive!

The Classics

Here is Costume Crazy’s selection of some of the greatest superhero TV shows from the 20th century:

1. The Six Million Dollar Man

This much-loved series from the ‘70s revolves around an astronaut who is crafted into a superhuman with robotic parts after the government operates on him following a major accident. He then uses his newfound bionic abilities to protect citizens from wicked forces. Fans of sci-fi are likely to become hooked on this cult classic!

2. The Greatest American Hero

If you enjoy comedic elements with your superhero stories, you may want to watch this amusing 3-season series. It follows the misadventures of unassuming secondary school teacher, Ralph, whose life is turned upside-down after he receives a powerful paranormal outfit from some extra-terrestrial visitors.

3. Wonder Woman

The most popular translation of this story from comic book to small screen is the ‘70s version starring Lynda Carter. This captivating series details the origins of the best female superhero, from sheltered princess to mega-powerful fighter.

Top 3 Marvellous Modern Superhero Series

Here are the best three modern superhero shows we’re currently binge watching.

1. Jessica Jones

Finally a main character that isn’t all brawn and testosterone! Bitter ex-superhero Jones works as a detective while dealing with PTSD. This one’s definitely for older audiences as it deals with some heavy issues.

2. Daredevil

This critically-acclaimed series has a unique premise: its protagonist is a lawyer who lost his sight as a child but has developed an alter-ego as a thug-busting defender of the innocent. Now here’s a superhero who likes to take the law into his own hands, literally!

3. The Flash

This family-friendly newcomer tells the story of unlikely superhero, CSI agent Barry, who, after a freak accident, is gifted with the power of superhuman speed. We’re definitely loving the story of a relatable, everyday guy who gets superhuman powers. We’re loving it even more when The Arrow and The Flash have cross-over episodes.
