The Force Awakens Costumes

The latest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, reminded us all why we love the franchise. Not only did it bring back fan favourite characters such as Leia, Luke and Han Solo, it also gave us a bunch of new characters to fall in love with. Finn and Rey are already generating fan bases to rival the original cast.

If you’ve seen the film, you’ve probably already decided who you want to dress as for your next party or convention. You could wait for new Star Wars costumes to be made, or you could go the DIY route and put something together yourself.

DIY Star Wars Costumes

Finn

Finn’s costume is easy enough to assemble. Along with the black pants and long-sleeve shirt, all you need is a brown leather bomber jacket, decorated with red electrical tape on the shoulders.

Rey Skywalker

If you want a Rey Skywalker costume, however, it’s going to take some work. Her desert garb has a lot of different parts to assemble, so let’s start from the top. You can make the goggles by sticking some blue goggle lenses onto a clear pair, layering with linen fabric and felt, and adding craft leather strips to the sides.

Rey’s top is basically a sleeveless shirt and two long fabric strips belted at the waist. Add in some arm wraps, cropped pants, fabric ugg-boots and a curtain rod for her staff, and you’re done! And if you want everything to match, make them out of white fabrics and then dye them the same colour.

Han Solo

Han’s outfit hasn’t changed much over the decades. The main difference is that with his classic dark pants, light long sleeve shirt and leather gun belt, he now has a dark brown leather jacket instead of a dark sleeveless vest. Repurpose an old costume and throw on a jacket to get the new look.

Luke Skywalker

Luke’s outfit looks simple, but has quite a few parts to it. An upturned collared shirt with a long vest and long scarf provide the underlayer, held together with a dark belt and buckle. Add a hooded cloak and leather waist pack to complete the ensemble.

If DIY isn’t really your thing, Costume Crazy has heaps of Star Wars costumes spanning the entire franchise for you to choose from. Whether dark side or light, these are the costumes you’re looking for.
